A lumpectomy, also known as a partial mastectomy, is the removal of a lump of breast tissue. This is most often used to treat a malignant tumor or breast cancer. A full mastectomy is more extensive: It is the removal of the entire breast.

2. Stop taking aspirin or any other blood-thinning medication a week or more before surgery.
3. Refrain from drinking or eating 8-12 hours before surgery.
4. Ensure you have what you need for the hospital stay, such as a toothbrush, book, or other supplies.
5. Recover from the procedure. During the recovery period, you can expect to feel pain, pinching, or numbness in the underarm area.
6. Ask your doctor before resuming wearing a bra or using a breast prosthesis.
